Current Research

The iWaTER lab specializes in interdisciplinary research  in various water areas:

  1. Renewable energies
    • Geothermal heating (Prof. Krol and Prof. Brar)
    • Green roof design (Prof. Khan and Prof. Krol)
  2. Smart wastewater technologies
    • Biological treatment processes for municipal and industrial wastewater (Prof. Eldyasti)
    • Biofilm technologies for wastewater/waste streams (Prof. Eldyasti)
  3. Sustainable site remediation
    • Thermal remediation (Prof. Krol)
    • Geothermal remediation (Prof. Krol and Prof. Brar)
  4. Drinking water
    • Arctic drinking water management (Prof. Gora)
    • Light based technologies for water purification (Prof. Gora)
  5. Surface water
    • Flood risk prediction (Prof. Khan)
    • Micro/macro plastic movement in surface water (Prof. Karimpour and Prof. Krol)

The overall vision for the iWaTER laboratory is to become Canada's leader in research into water technologies spanning different sub disciplines including wastewater, drinking water, groundwater, and surface water research.
